Our journey began in 1961 in Amritsar, India — where our grandparents built a love for food that was more than a meal. It was family, tradition, and community at its finest.
Those values travelled with us to Canada. In 2011 we started catering in the GTA. By 2018 Ottawa families were waking up to our tiffin at their door. Then in 2021, Desi Tadka opened in Bells Corners — and in 2025, Desi Tadka Express arrived in Stittsville.
Through every chapter — tiffin, dine-in, catering, takeout — our mission has never changed: food that feels like home.
From Amritsar to Ottawa
The Roots
Our grandparents' kitchen in Amritsar became legendary in the neighbourhood. Whole spices, slow-cooked gravies, tandoor-baked breads — the recipes that define Desi Tadka were born here.
Coming to Canada
We brought those family flavours to Canada through our GTA catering service. Word spread fast — authentic North Indian food, made the way it was always meant to be.
Tiffin Service Launches
Ottawa families were craving ghar ka khana. We launched our daily tiffin service — fresh homestyle Indian meals delivered to hundreds of families across the capital.
Desi Tadka Opens
Our first dine-in restaurant at 10-2006 Robertson Road. Lineups for Amritsari Kulcha from day one. Packed weekend brunches. A dining room that immediately felt like family.
Desi Tadka Express
Stittsville welcomed our fast, fresh express location at 1610 Stittsville Main Street — authentic Indian takeout and tiffin pickup, now on the west end.
